Experience nature in the Scottish Highlands on this unforgettable day tour of Scotland. Explore Loch Ness and marvel at Plodda Falls and the Falls of Foyers. Discover the inspiring work of Trees for Life, a rewilding charity dedicated to restoring Scotland's natural landscapes. Immerse yourself in nature, learn about wildlife, and enjoy stunning scenery!

Your one-day rewilding tour from Inverness departs in the morning and follows the beautiful Caledonian Canal to the source at Loch Ness. At 24 miles long and over 700 feet deep, the loch is the largest by volume in the British Isles and is most famous for its sightings of the Loch Ness Monster, affectionately known as “Nessie”. We will stop at the Loch Ness Centre where you have the option to take a small boat cruise (optional extra). From the cruise, admire the splendour of Urquhart Castle and its surroundings and search the depths of Loch Ness with onboard sonar equipment. Keep looking for Nessie on deck or from the comfort of the sheltered cabin.

We will then journey on to one of Scotland’s hidden treasures, Plodda Falls. A spectacular waterfall cascading past towering trees. The falls are set within a beautiful, wooded area that is part of a larger rewilding initiative to restore natural habitats and biodiversity in the Highlands. We will spend around 45 minutes here for you explore the area and take some brilliant photos.

Continuing along the shore of Loch Ness, passing through the small town of Invermoriston, we head slightly inland to the Dundreggan Estate. Here you will experience rewilding in action. The estate has been rewilded by Trees for Life since 2008 and fragments of the Caledonian forest are now recovering and expanding with over 4,000 species of plants and animals recorded on the estate. Before we explore the area on an expert-guided walking tour, we will pause for lunch for 30 minutes. You can visit the onsite café where locally sourced ingredients are freshly cooked in the kitchen every day. The cost of the expert guided walk of the estate is included in your tour. It will last around 1 hour and highlight the ever-changing wildlife, planting areas, moorland heathers, streams, and surroundings. This walk should be considered strenuous with some steep and rough terrain, for this, we would recommend sensible footwear.

After saying goodbye to the Trees for Life team and the Dundreggan Estate, we will journey onwards to another spectacular waterfall on the River Foyers. The Falls of Foyers plunges about 62 meters, or 200 feet, down into a gorge, making it one of the most dramatic waterfalls in the area. The path we take to view the falls winds through woodland, which has been a focal point for rewilding efforts. Keep an eye out for the elusive red squirrel.

Our final stop on the return journey to Inverness allows you to enjoy the tranquil beauty of Dores Beach on the northern shores of Loch Ness. Rewilding efforts in the surrounding area are focused on enhancing the natural landscapes by allowing vegetation to regenerate and reducing human impact on the environment. Your tour will conclude around 6 pm, as you arrive safely back in Inverness after enjoying a perfect blend of adventure, education, and natural splendour on this one-day tour of the Highlands.

So always have your camera at the ready - you never know if she's out there, just below the surface...
