Sometimes just one day on the Isle of Skye isn't enough to truly take in all of its beauty, history and folklore. This 2-day small group tour to Skye with an overnight stay in Portree takes you to some of the most spectacular sites on the island whilst passing through some of the most beautiful highland scenery.

Day One

Departing from Inverness, we begin our journey towards the Isle of Skye, stopping at Achnasheen for a quick comfort break and to grab a coffee. From there, we arrive at Loch Carron for a quick photo stop before reaching Kyle of Lochalsh for another quick comfort break.

Experience the incomparable beauty of Skye

After a drive through some spectacular island scenery, we arrive at Dunvegan Castle (Apr - Sept, optional extra)*. Continuously operated by the same family for over 800 years, Dunvegan Castle stands on the shore of Loch Dunvegan with the current structure dating back to around 1266. Take time here to explore the castle and its history or, if you prefer, head into Dunvegan village for lunch and to explore.

Then, we venture to the imposing and dramatic Quiraing mountain range. Be sure to have your camera ready to take some photos of this magnificent landscape, characterised by its high cliffs and pinnacles of rock caused by a gigantic landslip. We then head off to take in 3 more of Skye's most iconic landmarks; Kilt Rock, Lealt Falls, and the Old Man of Storr - all great ones to tick off your Skye bucket list.

We then head to Portree where we check into your accommodation for our overnight stay.

* In the winter months we will visit Neist Point instead of Dunvegan Castle.

Day Two

Discover the myths of the Fairy Pools

After breakfast we will depart Portree and head towards one of the most magical places in Scotland, the Fairy Pools. Shrouded in mystery and home to many myths and legends, you might want to bring a pair of walking boots to help you reach them.

Following a couple of comfort and photo stops at Sligachan and Sconser, we then head towards Broadford where you can enjoy some lunch and keep an eye out for wildlife with otters, seals and even killer whales spotted in the past.

Immerse yourself in history at Eilean Donan Castle

Then, it's onto our 2nd castle of the tour - Eilean Donan; one of Scotland's most photographed castles and situated on its own island at the head of Loch Duich (optional extra). Explore the atmospheric surroundings here and take some great photographs - be sure to share them with us using #timberbushtours.

We then return back to Inverness via the scenic town of Fort Augustus at the foot of Loch Ness. Enjoy stunning views of the massive loch, and home to our good friend Nessie, on the way back.

The price of our 2 day tour from Skye does not include accommodation but we can reserve it for you. Approximate costs are per person per night: Youth Hostel: £25-35, Bed & Breakfast: £55-75 (shared), £65-£115 (solo), Hotel: £75+ (Low Season) £90+ (High Season). Single supplement may apply. Please be advised, most accommodation providers only accept cash payments, and will not accept debit/credit cards as methods of payment.

Unforgettable 2-Day Tour
“First off, you have to do the 2-day tour. It gives you the opportunity to hike and explore and really appreciate all the beauty the Isle of Skye has to offer. And, if possible, ask for Jack to be your tour guide. He made this trip so fun, so interesting, so interactive. He shared stories and legends, history and fantasy, and he was decked out in full Scottish attire throughout the trip. It was unforgettable and gave me a deep appreciation for Scotland.”

What is the difference between a Hostel, B&B and Hotel?

Hostels are budget accommodation. Many hostels have kitchen facilities where customers can prepare their own food.

B&B's are privately owned Guesthouses. Guests are given breakfast (continental or full, depending on the B&B) but cannot prepare their own food.

Hotels are the most expensive choice of accommodation. Rooms come with a full breakfast (unless stated) and guests are unable to prepare their own food.

What is the difference between ensuite, standard, twin and double rooms?

Double means one double bed which sleeps two.

Twin means two single beds, where you share a room but not a bed.

Ensuite rooms have a private bathroom/toilet/shower within the room.

Standard rooms have communal facilities that are shared with other guests.

While we strive to book your first choice, please note that accommodation options can be limited during the busy season. We will do our best to accommodate your preferences but if your preferred choice is unavailable, we will inform you promptly.

Can I book my own accommodation?

Yes, you are free to make your own arrangements if you wish! We offer a £10 discount to those that choose to book their own accommodation!

This means that you have complete control over where you stay, and can take some time to research all of your options and pick the perfect accommodation for you and those you are travelling with!

Simply advise us at the time of booking that you will be reserving your own accommodation, and inform us at your earliest convenience of the name and address of the Guesthouse once it has been booked.

We kindly ask that your accommodation provider is located in central Portree, 2km (1.2 miles) from the town centre, otherwise your Driver-Guide will be unable to drop you off and collect you.

How much luggage can I bring?

Luggage is restricted to one medium sized suitcase per person.

For guidance: a medium sized suitcase is considered 60-69cm high and roughly 45cm in width.

If you have more luggage than this, you can store your surplus bags with Unbaggaged.

Unbaggaged will collect your bags at a time and place convenient to you! They then store them at a secure central location, and return them to you, again, wherever and whenever you like!

Are the optional extras included?

No, optional extras are not included in the tour price.

This is to allow our guests the freedom to choose which attractions they would like to visit on the day.

The prices for the optional extras (valid from April 2024) are as follows:

What should I bring with me?

As you’ll be spending two days on and off the coach with the opportunity for walks, we recommend bringing warm and/or waterproof clothing, comfortable walking shoes and some sun-block or a hat for sunny days.

And don’t forget your camera to capture all of the lovely scenery and wildlife you’ll encounter on your tour!

As there is a walk involved to reach the Fairy Pools on the Isle of Skye, you may want to bring walking boots.

Can children travel on this tour?

We welcome children over 4 years old on our tours, and children aged between 4-16yrs are eligible for the concessionary rate.

We regret we are not able to carry children under the age of 4.

If you can’t find what you are looking for, don't worry! Just because it's not here, doesn't mean we can't do it. Have a look at our private tour page or contact us directly, and we will make it happen!
