Our 1-day of Skye from Inverness takes in some of the most dramatic and stunning landscapes Scotland has to offer! See Loch Ness, learn about the history of Eilean Donan Castle and visit Portree, Kilt Rock and much more on our Skye tour from Inverness; the capital of the Highlands.
After departing from Inverness we travel south, hugging the shoreline of Loch Ness to Invermoriston. Loch Ness, 24 miles long and over 700ft deep, is most famous for its sightings of the Loch Ness Monster, affectionately known as ‘Nessie’. As we travel past the loch towards Invermoriston for a quick break, keep an eye out for Nessie.
After Loch Ness, our Skye Tour continues on to Eilean Donan Castle; one of Scotland’s most photographed castles. The castle is situated on its own island at the head of Loch Duich. We take time here to explore the castle and its atmospheric surroundings (optional extra).
Afterwards, we continue our journey to the Isle of Skye, passing over the Skye Bridge and on to the small village of Portree for our lunchtime stop. Portree, although a small harbour village, is the capital of Skye, and is surrounded by rocky cliffs and rolling hills. Its beautiful surroundings make it a perfect stop to have lunch and enjoy views of the boats.
Moving on, we visit various points of interest in Skye such as; Kilt Rock for amazing coastal views, take a short walk at Lealt Falls and admire the Old Man of Storr. After spending the afternoon exploring Skye and admiring its stunning scenery we will stop off on the return journey at Strome Viewpoint for photos of Loch Carron before continuing homeward bound to Inverness, where your Isle of Skye day tour ends.
Optional Extras:
Eilean Donan Castle - £10 adult, £9 senior, £6 child
Please note: Eilean Donan Castle will be closed on the following dates: 2nd, 5th, 6th, 9th, 15th, 16th & 24th November 2024. We will still visit the castle for a photo stop.
“Not having taking many travel tours in my life, my trip to the highlands (Isle of Sky, Eileen Donan Castle from Inverness) with my daughter on January 14, 2024 was an incredible experience for me and well worth the expense. We were greeted by Liall our excellent host and travel guide and hopped onto a mid-size bus that was very clean, cozy and warm as the weather was cold with snow flurries during the day that made the adventure even more fun. Although the castle was closed the day we went, we were still able to walk around the grounds and surrounding scenic area which was breathtaking in itself. The many stops along this route are super beautiful. You cannot possibly take a bad picture anywhere. What we received on this tour is a day we will never forget; beautiful views, great Scottish music, a kind and very knowledgeable tour guide host, Liall, who shared a vast amount of information on the history, the surrounding landscape areas we were exploring and many stories of Scotland. We appreciated his wonderful service to the group. There were plenty of stops along the way to make our trip very comfortable. And the best thing is that we did not have to drive. We just sat back and enjoyed the ride. I totally recommend this incredible experience to all who are planning a trip to Scotland. We thoroughly loved it.”
